Raymonde Duchesne's paintings often show people as if posing in front of an imaginary camera, their gentle eyes watching us. Duchesne says of her people, "The feeling of melancholy they show us is that of the passing time. The innocence of their facial expressions, the serenity of a family and emotions discreetly portrayed invite the viewer to guess what universe lies within."
Duchesne was born in Lac Saint-Jean in 1945. At the age of eighteen she left Lac Saint-Jean and went to Chicoutimi where chance led her to study health sciences. In much the same way, she discovered herself through painting. The delicate sensitivity in Duchesne's paintings reflects her own personal journey in life.
