Joro Petkov was born in 1960 in the small Bulgarian town of Tchiprovtzi, a town renowned for its distinguished legacy of fine artists. He moved to the nation's capitol, Sophia, where he attended the prestigious Ilia Petrov School of Fine Art. He continued his training at the Nicolai Pavloich Academy of Arts and graduated in 1986.
Petkov's career has flourished since he moved to Canada. He paints exceptional landscapes, with a transition to the abstract.
Petkov's use of warm and contrasting colors moves his work from the usual to the unexpected. The artist says of his paintings: "I work from a conventional observation of place, but my landscapes are definitely reinvented realities. Both the abstract works and the landscapes explore the drama between the light and the dark of the outside world and that within."
Petkov's works are exhibited in the United States, Canada, and Malta.
